'REAL' prospect of Real Madrid star joining Liverpool
A 'real' prospect has opened up about Liverpool signing the perfect midfielder for their needs.
Few could really complain about Richard Hughes' transfer activity over the course of the summer window. He pretty much delivered on every front.
And it was not his fault that Crystal Palace decided to change their minds in the very last minute. Nor that Giovanni Leoni would be ruled out of the rest of the season.
However, if there were grievances with Hughes, it was probably over his refusal to sign a holding midfielder. This is. something that is hurting Liverpool in the present moment.
Right now they are lacking a pure ball-winner, who can pick-up the loose balls and also play a key role in the build-up.
It's why the Reds have looked so vulnerable in counter attacking situations, and why they've conceded so many goals.
Long-term it's an area that needs to be addressed. And Hughes is already working on it.
Liverpool need a player with speed, who is strong in his duels and is also very progressive. There aren't many elite midfielders like this in world football.
Moises Caicedo is one of them and he came very close to joining the club. In the end, Liverpool missed out on him but that could be a blessing in disguise.
Missing out on Caicedo meant signing Wataru Endo and winning the Premier League title while turning Ryan Gravenberch into one of the best midfielders in Europe.
It could also lead to Liverpool signing a midfielder even better than Caicedo in Eduardo Camavinga.
Yes, you heard that right. There's now a genuine possibility of Liverpool signing the exquisite French midfielder. The 22-year-old has fallen down the pecking order since Xabi Alonso took over at the club.
Camavinga doesn't necessarily suit the Spaniard's system, which opens up the possibility of him leaving. According to TEAMtalk there's now a 'real' possibility of the Real Madrid star leaving for either Liverpool or Manchester City in the summer transfer window.
It's a bit of a similar situation to Alexis Mac Allister at Liverpool, who is struggling to adjust to a new way of life, and may not necessarily be the midfielder Slot needs to make his system work.
Conversely, he'd be perfectly suited to play midfield in Alonso's system and Real Madrid are interested in the Argentine.
Meanwhile, Camavinga is exactly the type of midfielder we described Liverpool are missing right now. On top of that he could also cover the left-back role if needed and that could become a useful trait with Andy Robertson having less than a year left on his contract.
So in theory, there is a potential for a deal to work for both sides. And unlike City who can't offer a replacement Liverpool can which might just give them an advantage in this deal.
