Real Madrid ONE step from bombshell Ibrahima Konate news
A bombshell Ibrahima Konate update? Real Madrid are one step away from massive news.
Ibrahima Konate will leave Liverpool at the end of the season unless he agrees a new contract with the club. The clock is ticking, too, as non-English clubs can agree a pre-contract with the defender from January 1st.
Though, it's not exactly a new situation for Liverpool. The Reds battled all of last season with arguably their three best players on expiring contract and won the title.
The pressure isn't at that level this time around, even if the club absolutely want to sort the situation. And there's a feeling they'd have done just that if not for Real Madrid.
Los Blancos, much as they did with Trent Alexander-Arnold, are pushing to sign Konate. They've been linked all over the Spanish press for months now - the exact campaign that runs every time they're chasing a player.
Their involvement makes it incredibly difficult to agree a new contract, especially if Konate's head has been turned. However, it appears we might get a major update on that shortly.
Real Madrid's grand plans
Cadena SER reports that Real Madrid are keen to sign Dayot Upamecano from Bayern Munich. The Frenchman is also out of contract in the summer, in a similar situation to his compatriot (and former RB Leipzig teammate) Konate.
Importantly, the report suggests that Real Madrid's decision to push forward with Upamecano is because they've cooled drastically on Konate. It's apparently because of the Liverpool star's injury record - it's putting them off.
Of course, this would be incredible news for Liverpool. Konate's injury record isn't that terrible, after all, and there's no question that the Reds want to keep him.
Real Madrid leaving the table makes that infinitely easier. In fact, we imagine Konate will re-sign with Liverpool is the report is correct here.
