PSG make formal request for advantage over Liverpool in crunch UEFA Champions League tie
Paris Saint-Germain want an advantage over Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League. They've made a formal request.
Paris Saint-Germain hope to secure a proper advantage over Liverpool ahead of their massive UEFA Champions League clash at Anfield next month. A formal request has gone in to postpone their meeting with RC Lens the prior weekend, per L'Équipe.
It's a notable one. Lens are actually their nearest rivals for the Ligue 1 crown this season, sitting just one point behind PSG.
They're currently scheduled to meet them right before heading to Anfield, but the Parisians hope to get the week off. That would leave them refreshed for the trip - something Liverpool won't be.
The Reds have essentially no chance of seeing similar help from the Premier League with their fixture against Fulham the prior weekend. Liverpool will have to compete on both fronts, while their opponents hope to avoid that.
It's something PSG did against Chelsea and against Liverpool last season. That paid off, of course, as they'd win at Anfield before triumphing on penalties.
Luis Enrique: Situation Summary
Luis Enrique: PSG Update
As of 23 March 2026, Luis Enrique has labelled the upcoming Champions League quarter-final against Liverpool a "European classic." He dismissed favourites tags, recalling last year's tense shootout victory over the Reds. The first leg kicks off 8 April at the Parc des Princes.
Contract & Future
Enrique is reportedly finalizing a three-year extension through 2030 to align with Sporting Director Luis Campos. He recently dismissed Liverpool and Manchester United links as "fake news," though he remains a top target for both should their managerial situations shift this summer.
Form & Injuries
He reached his 100th domestic game with a 4-0 win over Nice on 21 March, placing PSG one point clear in Ligue 1. However, injuries to Kang-in Lee and Senny Mayulu have thinned his squad depth ahead of the European run-in.
