£65m Man City bid OPENS door to spectacular Liverpool transfer
Manchester City could be about to kick-start a domino effect in the transfer window that could impact Liverpool positively.
Antoine Semenyo is without a shadow of a doubt the most sought after player in January. We're now less than a month away from the window opening and it looks likely that the Bournemouth winger is going to be on the move.
Where he will go remains to be seen. Liverpool are huge admirers but The Times are now reporting that Manchester City are also considering making a move for the Ghanian.
According to that report City are ready to trigger his £65m release clause and bring him to the Etihad as they view him as the potential missing piece that could help bridge the gap between them and Arsenal.
Now this would be a blow to Liverpool. Semenyo is a fantastic player and he will be very successful wherever he goes. City will be a much greater force with him in the side.
But with everything in life there is always a silver lining.
Liverpool definitely need to add a left-winger. They need more stereotypical wingers who hold width in the team. Right now the team is desperately lacking in that department.
It's something Richard Hughes has tried to address. He's explored a move for Yankuba Minteh and Anthony Gordon during his first summer window.
Last January he tried to sign Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and now obviously Semenyo has been on his radar as well - starting in the summer window prior to this season.
He'll undoubtedly have a shortlist and potential alternatives to Semenyo and if he moves to City, it could trigger plan B for Liverpool.
That plan could see them make a spectacular transfer for Bazoumana Toure. He may be a surprise name but he is pretty much everything you want in this Liverpool system right now.
Toure is rapid. He's excellent in his dribbles. In the last calendar year out of players who averaged at least five dribbles per 90 minutes in Europe's top five leagues, Toure has the third best success rate (64%).
Only Bukayo Saka (64.2%) and Kenan Yildiz (64.8%) have a better success rate.
On top of that, Toure is among just 17 players in Europe's top five leagues who average 0.20 xA per 90 minutes and 0.20 xG per 90 minutes while also averaging 5 dribbles per 90 minutes
Other players on that list include Desire Doue, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Michael Olise. As well as Yankuba Minteh, Vinicus Junior and Kylian Mbappe.
So the youngster is in a distinguished list and the most impressive thing about him is that he's the youngest player on this shortlist at just 19-years-old.
Toure is simply a fantastic player with great speed and great intensity. Out of the players on the list he averages the fifth most successful defensive actions (5.11) and the third most interceptions (2.24).
His pressing ability and workrate is excellent which again is an area where Liverpool are looking.
Right now everyone is looking at a player like this and Toure is the gem in the market.
Michael Edwards has struck gold from Hoffenheim in the past as well with Roberto Firmino. He definitely could do the same with Toure.
