£17m ace is Liverpool’s ideal answer to their injury woes
Jeremie Frimpong, Conor Bradley and Joe Gomez have all managed to get themselves injured over the last few weeks.
Going into the 2025-26 season, it was clear that the Anfield outfit didn't have enough depth among their defensive ranks, even though they brought in two new defenders.
The Reds' defence has been a major problem for the Anfield outfit for some time now with questions often being asked about who Liverpool's newest defender is going to be.
Of course, Virgil van Dijk is one of the first names on Arne Slot's team sheet, but, with his contract set to expire next summer, a massive rebuild will need to take place.
And, with the number of defensive injuries that Liverpool keep suffering, it's hardly a surprise to see fans demanding that some new talent is brought in.
Questions have been asked about whether the Anfield outfit are going to sign a new right-back or not, and, even though most reports suggest that they aren't going to, there is a perfect option available on the market for the club.
Julian Ryerson could be Liverpool's perfect right-back transfer
One thing that Liverpool's fans have made abundantly clear this season is that they're not afraid of change.
The Reds spent over £400 million on new players and, although things have only just started to click, fans were ecstatic about the signings their club made.
Earlier in the January transfer window, Borussia Dortmund's Julian Ryerson was linked with an Anfield switch.
The Norwegian international is 28 years old and since his contract is set to expire in 2028, he could be a perfect target for Liverpool.
As mentioned, earlier in the winter transfer window, the right-back was linked with a move to Slot's team by Absolut Fussball.
In that report, Ryerson's potential transfer fee was mentioned with the number Dortmund wanted being around £17 million.
Indeed, the defender is likely to be a tad older than most of Liverpool's targets, but, with the amount of Champions League experience he has under his belt, his arrival could help the Reds massively.
He's chipped in with a fair few assists for Dortmund already this season and, even if he was only going to be a stop-gap solution, Liverpool would be unlikely to lose any money on the defender.
Liverpool must sign a new defender if Jeremie Frimpong is ruled out for an extended period
Frimpong's recent injury is genuinely the last thing that Liverpool needed.
The Reds were already in a bit of a defensive crisis and now that the Dutchman is out for an unknown amount of time, some serious thinking needs to be done.
As much as the Reds won't want to sign a stop-gap solution, it's clear that having Wataru Endo and Dominik Szoboszlai as their only right-back options for the rest of the season is far from ideal.
Indeed, Szoboszlai has put in some solid performances when used at right-back this term but he's been far more effective when played in midfield.
And, in Endo's case, as good as he was under Jurgen Klopp, each time he's played this season, it's felt like he's been a fraction of his former self.
If Liverpool want to win the Champions League and the FA Cup this term, some new faces need to be brought in before it's too late.
