Liverpool could be on their way to the next-gen Mo Salah and Sadio Mane. An approach has been made to complete the link-up.

Liverpool's success under Jurgen Klopp was built on a lot of things. The goalscoring, though, came down to two players: Mo Salah and Sadio Mane.

The pair of wingers were sensational, carrying Liverpool to every major trophy and developing an all-time great forward-line alongside Roberto Firmino. It's something the Reds will always hope to replicate - and maybe there is a way.

Now, it's not going to happen overnight and Liverpool know that any wing partnership is something for the long-term future rather than the here and now. That's largely because of their faith in Rio Ngumoha.

The Athletic reports that Ngumoha is still viewed as the future on the left. To the point where Liverpool are hesitant to sign any players who could block his pathway.

But what about a winger on the right?

Rio Ngumoga and Yan Diomande

Ngumoha is still very young, of course. But if Liverpool want an ideal partner for him on the other flank, they’ll want to find someone who can essentially develop alongside him.

That means finding another elite teenage talent on the right. Someone like Yan Diomande at RB Leipzig.

Diomande broke into senior football last season with Leganes and earned a move to RB Leipzig. They’ve used him steadily this season, with the Ivorian quickly establishing himself in the Bundesliga.

And at just 19, clubs are already looking at signing him. Sky Sports report that Liverpool, as well as Tottenham Hotspur, have made an approach to Diomande’s representatives.

Diomande would be about as perfect as it gets to compliment Ngumoha long-term. He’s still only a teenager but looks capable of progressing the ball at the highest level.

In fact, Diomande is 99th-percentile for progressive carries and take-ons among wingers in Europe’s top five leagues. Doing that at 19 suggests the potential to be a world-beater - if a club can develop the right kind of end product.

Liverpool appear to believe they could develop that. Doing it with Ngumoha on the other flank is an unbelievably tempting prospect, too - the next-gen Salah and Mane that we’ve dreamed of.
