Newcastle take major step to steal midfielder from under Liverpool

Newcastle United have made a dramatic move to steal a midfielder from under the noses of Liverpool.

E Gool in Brazil claims Newcastle United have made direct contact over a move for Palmeiras star Allan. The Brazilian has been heavily linked with a move away from South America in 2026.

And that's principally meant Liverpool. The Reds have had their name put in the mix for a while now, with some reports suggesting a move is probable, let alone possible.

But Newcastle apparently feel this is a race they can win. They've sent an official to hold talks, with dreams of securing this deal from under the noses of Liverpool.

Though, there are other clubs involved. Napoli made an offer in January that was rejected by Palmeiras and they could well try and get involved again.

Allan: Situation Summary

Performance and Tactical Versatility

A left-footed academy graduate, Allan primarily operates as a right winger but has demonstrated the versatility to play across the midfield. In the early stages of the 2026 season, he has recorded two goals in the Campeonato Paulista and Serie A. Known for his elite dribbling and ball circulation under pressure, he has become a mainstay in Abel Ferreira’s side following the departures of Endrick and Estêvão.

Transfer Speculation and Club Stance

Liverpool and Newcastle United are reportedly leading the race for his signature, with scouts reportedly giving him "perfect" ratings for his tactical intelligence. While his contract runs until December 2029 with a €100 million release clause, Palmeiras are said to be holding out for a fee in the region of €30m–€35m. Despite the heavy interest, club president Leila Pereira has recently reiterated that Palmeiras intends to keep Allan for the 2026 FIFA Club World Cup.

Analysis

It's difficult to say at this stage whether Liverpool's interest in Allan is genuine or not. Or perhaps it's better to say whether their interest in Allan is as strong as has been reported.

The 21-year-old is one of the brightest prospects in Brazil so we do imagine Liverpool have looked at the player. We also imagine they'd sign him for the right price.

But there's a growing sense that all the media talk may just be a way to drive his price up. That's usually what's happening when you get a sudden flurry of reports with no follow-up.

The Allan race is still one for Liverpool fans to watch. Just perhaps with a little bit of salt.
