Mo Salah sends URGENT Arne Slot message
Mo Salah has sent a message to Arne Slot with his performance for Egypt.
The 33-year-old hasn't reached the standard he has normally met for Liverpool so far this season. On paper, Salah's numbers are solid with six goal contributions in 10 matches - however these are not the numbers of the best player in the league, nor the best player in the world.
That's the standard Salah has set over the last few years. He's become one of the best players on the planet and that remains. Salah is an elite player and the last few games is not going to change that.
Ultimately, his body will catch-up with him but there are no signs of this happening to Salah just yet. In the future, it could, but not now.
Salah's performances this season aren't necessarily down to him but rather the position he is playing.
The Egyptian thrives inside the opposition's penalty area. He loves coming to central positions and taking on shots or finding his teammates with clever passes.
This season Slot isn't getting him to play this role. He's being asked to play a lot wider and hold the width on the Liverpool right flank.
Salah was excellent at doing this during the beginning of his career but at Liverpool he has refined his role as more of an inside forward rather than a winger.
In his new role, his taking less touches and being less involved than he normally is. As a result, he's also having the ball at his feet less often in the areas where he is most dangerous.
Last season, Salah averaged 9.5 touches in the opposition's penalty area per 90 minutes. That was an incredible number and it produced incredible output.
This season, he's only averaging 4.7 touches per 90 minutes. That's close to half of his numbers last season, so it's not a surprise that his goal-scoring and assist numbers have also reduced.
If Salah isn't in those areas or Liverpool are not finding him where he is best, then he's never going to be as productive.
Now, what's the solution? Well, Salah has the answer and he sent an urgent message to Slot with his performance for his national team.
For Egypt, Salah was back playing in a more central role against Djibouti. What was the result? 3-0, with Salah scoring a brace. Just look at the highlights of his performance - this is a Salah who is in his prime.
Hopefully, Slot heeds the message and gets Salah playing back where he belongs.
