Midfielder confirms he's PERFECT for Liverpool
Liverpool still don't really have the perfect midfield.
There's a lot of talent in the squad right now, and the midfield is well-stocked. Dominik Szoboszlai is probably one of the best players in the Premier League at the moment.
Last season, Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister were also up there among the best players and Curtis Jones is having a brilliant spell in the team, too.
But the balance is missing. Gravenberch has done well in a holding midfield role. Ultimately, that's not his position. He is much better in a double pivot as a player who can roam and go forward. He's also not a deep-lying creator who can progress the ball from his own half and involve himself in the build-up.
Without Trent Alexander-Arnold, these deficiencies in his game are becoming even more apparent, and it signals the need for Liverpool to do what they have been trying to do for years - replace Fabinho.
At first it was, Moises Caicedo who was supposed to do the job the Brazilian did so well at the club but he ended up joining Chelsea.
Martin Zubimendi then came close to joining Liverpool but ultimately he's joined Arsenal.
The type of midfielder Liverpool now want to sign is very apparent based on those profiles.
They need someone who is equally good defensively and breaks-up opposition attacks but who can also make forward passes and instigate attacks of his own. Just like prime Fabinho was able to do.
The best in both of these areas who is going under the radar right now is Lamine Camara. He's a mix between Zubimendi and Caicedo.
He's not as defensively strong as Caicedo but he is still a very solid defender. At the same time, he's also a brilliant technical player who can make fantastic forward passes and who deals well under pressure.
He showcased his qualities at the African Cup of Nations starting in the final for Senegal and making several key defensive contributions during the game.
His slide tackle to prevent a shot in the first-half was hugely important to keep the score 0-0 and allow Senegal to later win the game.
At 22-years-old, this was a tremendous performance. Camara was one of the youngest players on the pitch but he showed so much quality and in the process he confirmed that he is definitely ready to make a move to a club like Liverpool, simply because he is exactly what the Reds are missing.
Camara's reading of the game. His energy to disrupt defences and his bravery to commit to challenges is the type of midfielder Liverpool don't really have right now.
He's not the tallest but he makes up for it with his speed and his bravery. Camara can stand his ground in physical challenges and on top of that he has brilliant technique.
Ultimately, he's the perfect package for Liverpool. Anyone watching the final will have seen it. Now it's just time to bring him to Anfield.
