Michael Edwards now working on dream double deal
Liverpool are now working on a dream double deal.
Michael Edwards has faced growing scrutiny in recent weeks following reports that FSG’s plans to acquire a second club have now been put on hold.
When Edwards returned to Liverpool, his role was intended to extend beyond overseeing the club’s football operations, potentially including responsibilities across a wider multi-club model.
However, with those expansion plans now unlikely to progress, his attention may shift back solely to Liverpool.
That could prove to be a significant boost.
During his previous spell as sporting director, Edwards built a reputation for his sharp eye for talent and his collaborative approach with the recruitment team. His ability to identify undervalued players who developed into top-level stars was a key factor in the club’s success.
If recent reports are accurate, Liverpool may be set to benefit from that same focused approach once again.
And especially because Liverpool are embarking on one of the most difficult periods in the club's recent history.
Not only has the Reds' form slumped under Arne Slot but they are also approaching the end of an era.
Mo Salah has already announced his decision to leave the club. And with him there is going to be a huge void.
How Liverpool replace him is going to determine the entire face of the club's future. Get it, right and the Reds will be flourishing, get it wrong and the Reds could be heading towards the same fate as Man United during the post Sir Alex Ferguson era.
So, it's imperative Liverpool get it right, and having Edwards now solely focused on recruitment could be a huge boost in the club's endeavours to bring the best possible outcome.
It looks like they are working on the perfect move, too.
According to a report from SportsBild in Germany, Liverpool are looking at Bazoumana Toure and Yan Diomande as the potential arrivals to replace Salah.
The report doesn't claim that it's one or the other who the Reds want. In fact, Anfield Watch understands Liverpool want to bring in two wingers this summer.
So, this means Liverpool could be signing both and that would be a dream double deal.
The two Ivorian wingers are exactly what's missing right now from Slot's attack. Toure and Diomande would bring speed, intensity and a lot of creativity on the flanks for Liverpool.
Together they would help the likes of Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike flourish.
