Manager who could replace Arne Slot confirms he will be at the San Siro to watch Liverpool
Arne Slot's job is on the line and Liverpool could already be plotting a secret move to replace him.
Despite what the club's board will be communicating to the media, they will undoubtedly be looking at alternative solutions in the managerial position given the club's recent form.
Especially because it's not just a 'recent' problem. Liverpool have won just 26 of their last 52 matches so far in this calendar year. This poor run of results has been going on for a while.
On top of everything, Slot doesn't seem to be able to handle the dressing room at Liverpool. He can't quite figure out the best system for his players, even though he's had months now to plan, and there has been no effort at integrating young players into the team - which is a key component of Liverpool's success both in the transfer market and on the pitch.
Slot just simply feels like he is out of his depth. Liverpool won't be making any hasty decisions but it would not be a surprise if they were already lining up a shortlist.
This will include a number of candidates. Undoubtedly, the heavy favourites will be Xabi Alonso and Julian Nagelsmann. But neither are available at the moment.
So, who else could be on the club's radar?
Cesc Fร bregas is another that makes sense. He plays exactly the type of football that Liverpool want to play right now. It's intense with great pressing and quick short-passes that keeps the opponents on edge and gives everyone plenty of opportunities to get on the ball.
Defensively, he has made Como a very solid side.
On paper, he seems like an ideal fit. He's young, full of energy and he has been there and done it at the highest of stages as a player. So, he understands what it's like to deal with a dressing room full of superstars.
Now interestingly, Fabregas confirmed speaking to DAZN's TV channel as per EuroFoot on X that he will be attending Liverpool's game against Inter Milan at the San Siro on Tuesday night.
"Inter are phenomenal! I will be there to watch them play Liverpool so that I can continue to learn," Fabregas said.
These comments are particularly interesting because Fabregas has just played Inter with Como at the weekend. So, if he wanted to learn he could just study those tapes.
Obviously, it's entirely possible that he just loves watching football and that's why he will be at the game.
But we do wonder whether there is an alternative reason for him going to the match.
Richard Hughes is known to have lots of connections in Italian football. Having grown up in the country, it would not be a surprise if Hughes was in attendance at the San Siro on Tuesday night as well.
And if Liverpool's sporting director is there while a potential candidate to replace Slot in Fabregas is also there, then you have to imagine they would at least exchange a few words.
It's just a theory and speculation for now. But Fabregas' visit to the San Siro comes at a very curious timing for Liverpool.
