Liverpool wonderkid sensation leaves the club as deal confirmed
A sensational wonderkid has left Liverpool in a last minute January deal.
At this moment in time the club is facing a fight to keep some of its brightest talent. Things have changed around Anfield. Liverpool in the past had a proud tradition of promoting and giving a pathway to young players to break into the first-team.
It was a tradition that Jurgen Klopp honed. He was fantastic as a man-manager helping to integrate and inspire his young players.
Arne Slot does not seem to possess this charisma and he's less willing to give young players opportunities. Trey Nyoni and Rio Ngumoha have both been reduced to limited minutes in the first-team so far this season.
Some of the young players in Liverpool's academy are going to be looking at those two and wondering if they will receive the same treatment and therefore are they better off going elsewhere.
It's a natural dilemma to have for players at big clubs like Liverpool. Unfortunately, at the best case, a club like Liverpool is only going to be able to integrate maybe one or two academy players every year.
This is why Liverpool's academy is littered with so much talent and strives for excellence. To make it at the club you need to be a special talent.
There are plenty of exciting young sensations who are highly thought of in the academy and who go onto have successful careers but not at Anfield.
One such player could be Tyler Martin.
He is a wonderkid who was well regarded at Liverpool and had one goal and one assist in three appearances for the U18s this season, scoring a late winner against Stoke City back in January.
Last season he also scored a last-minute equaliser against Manchester United. He's a player with a lot of speed and directness but he won't be flaunting his talent at Liverpool anymore.
Stoke City confirmed this week that they have signed Martin from Liverpool, and the 18-year-old will now join their U21 team.
Martin had a trial at Stoke and he scored two goals in three games for the U21 team in the Premier League 2, showcasing exactly what he is about and why he is so talented.
He's not the first Liverpool academy player to join Stoke City in recent years. Francis Gyimah also joined Stoke from Liverpool last season.
So, there will be a familiar face for Martin at the club.
Liverpool are aware they can't keep every talent and they will be wishing Martin the very best in his new adventure. Perhaps one day his career could take him back to Anfield.
For now, it's a sensation that is lost to the Reds.
