Liverpool winger suffers devastating injury
Liverpool's winger has suffered a devastating injury that means he won't be available for a while.
It's not an easy period for the club right now and Arne Slot's situation has not been helped by injuries.
Just as the rift between him and Mo Salah has started to unfold we have seen Cody Gakpo ruled out with an injury for several weeks and Federico Chiesa fall to illness, which ruled him out vs Inter Milan.
The latter will be available for the Brighton game. The former though won't be up for selection for a while, which leaves Slot with very limited options in attack.
This is when the Dutchman could have turned towards the club's academy players and recruited one of Liverpool's best performing stars at U21 level, who already has senior first-team experience.
However, the youngster has suffered an injury blow that means Slot's options are even fewer.
The Daily Mail report that Kaide Gordon has torn his meniscus in a 'devastating' moment for the young player. Gordon has just started to find confidence again and was in great form.
He showcased his quality in a cameo against Crystal Palace in the League Cup, where he shone despite only playing a few minutes.
At U21 level he has been very prolific in front of goal, which could have led to a first-team chance given the number of absences in his position at the moment, especially with Gakpo injured and Salah soon to depart for the African Cup of Nations.
But he won't be getting that opportunity.
Instead, the Mail claim that he is now set for a 'significant period' on the sidelines.
What that means for his future remains to be seen. Given that we are just less than a month away from the January transfer window, it's entirely possible that Gordon won't get that loan move that he and Liverpool would have wanted.
The significant period means it will be difficult to find suitors for him and Liverpool also don't want to loan him out while being injured.
Ideally you want your young players to go on loan and be given an opportunity to play games and catch the eye. You also want them to be arriving at those loans with confidence and in the best possible condition.
That won't be the case for Gordon right now given the injury, which means he will not likely have to spend the rest of the season at the club.
He's far too good to be playing U21 level so this will be disappointing. It felt like he could have really kicked on his career with a loan spell come the winter period.
We hope for a quick recovery for the youngster.
