It's becoming inevitable Liverpool will sign a talent better than Trent Alexander-Arnold.

There's an old age adage that goes like this; the grass isn't always greener on the other side. For Liverpool's former no.66 this is becoming more and more apparent.

Alexander-Arnold left Liverpool dreaming of Champions League glory and Ballon d'Or accolades at Real Madrid. He thought he was going to be a superstar at the club.

Now he's spent the first six months of his career slowly slipping down the pecking order. First Dani Carvajal and then Federico Valverde have taken over in the right-back role.

It's meant he's spent more time on the bench this season than on the pitch.

Now it's not just his place in the team that's being but also his place in the England squad.

He hasn't been called-up for England and when Thomas Tuchel was asked about the now Real Madrid star, he replied that he thought that fellow Liverpool academy graduate Jarell Quansah was ahead of him in the pecking order.

Speaking after England's win over Albania, Tuchel said the following:

"I have a lot of trust in Jarell," Tuchel said. "I see his talent, but I see the package. He is tall, he is fast, he is strong in build-up. He is strong in the air.

"I saw him very strong playing for Liverpool in this position so I always wanted to try. And he plays every minute for Bayer Leverkusen since the under-21 Euros. So he is at the moment a tiny bit ahead [of Alexander-Arnold]."

This has turned from a nightmare into a disaster for Alexander-Arnold.

But for Liverpool their focus won't be on him, they'll be keeping their eyes on Quansah and what Tuchel said about him.

It seems like he's now being rated as a better talent than Alexander-Arnold and that only adds more credence to the fact that Liverpool will inevitably bring Quansah back into the fray.

When Hughes agreed to sell him in the summer window he definitely thought about bringing him back to the club.

He didn't just let him join Bayer Leverkusen, he struck put £70m agreement in place to buy-back Quansah from Leverkusen as per a recent report.

And their agreement goes even further. As we wrote previously, Liverpool also have a pre-agreement for a contract with Quansah if that £70m buy-back clause was triggered.

Hughes would not have done that if he didn't seriously consider him as a future option at Anfield. Liverpool officials still hold him in high regard. It's merely that they knew that he needed regular minutes to develop in order to reach his full potential.

Now Quansah is getting those minutes at Leverkusen and seriously catching the eye.

£70m in this day and age for a centre-back of his ilk is still a lot of money to pay. But Quansah is worth every penny. Not only is he elite but he's also homegrown and an academy product.

The value of that cannot be understated.

In the process when Hughes does activate that buy-back clause, Liverpool could be getting a player better than Alexander-Arnold.
