Liverpool want deal for £19m per year free agent forward

Liverpool spent nearly £200m on a new strike force last summer.

Hugo Ekitike was acquired for around £69m - with the former Eintracht Frankfurt star taking to life at Anfield with considerable relish.

The other centre forward who arrived was Alexander Isak - with the Swede costing a British record £125m from Newcastle. Liverpool are still waiting to see the best of their record signing - with the 26-year-old laid up with a broken leg.

Sporting director Richard Hughes has been tipped to move for a replacement in January and Goncalo Ramos has been suggested as a short-term loan.

But there are indications that Liverpool may well go back into the market for a new centre forward next summer and this time it could be a high-profile free transfer.

Dusan Vlahovic, 25, has been with Juventus since 2022 but his career with the Italian giants has never truly hit the heights.

The Serbian was widely expected to depart last summer - when it was Juve’s last real chance to earn some money on him in the transfer market.

The Old Lady paid €70m to Fiorentina for his services and his contract ends in 2026. But no buyer could be found - with Vlahovic’s sky-high salary demands acting as a deterrent.

Vlahovic earning more than £19m per year

Reportedly earning around €22m (£19m) basic per year - not many clubs are going to be able to afford that salary.

Juventus have already told Vlahovic that no renewal will be possible on those wages and if he wants to stay beyond next summer the No9 will have to tak a pay cut.

He is currently out injured - further complicating his situation - and is not expected to be fit before the end of January.

This season he’s scored six goals in all competitions and according to Gazzetta dello Sport his agent is now working on finding a new home.

Liverpool tipped for Vlahovic deal

Among the teams mentioned are AC Milan - coached by his former mentor Max Allegri - as well as Premier League clubs including Liverpool.

The attraction of adding a frontman like Vlahovic on a free is no doubt intriguing but his goal record - and wages - mark this deal down as a big risk.

“Something could be happening in the Premier League, where several clubs (including Liverpool) could be interested,” the report reads.

Quite how Liverpool would plan to accommodate THREE first-choice No9s remains to be seen. But let’s see how this deal develops over the next few months.
