Liverpool are now waiting to see what an international star's final decision is ahead of a potential transfer.

Will Liverpool sign Denzel Dumfries? That was the big question back in January and it's one that, apparently, remains relevant.

L'Interista reports that the full-back-slash-wing-back could be on the move this summer if he wants to be. And it really is now Dumfries' decision.

There's a €25m release clause in his contract, meaning Inter don't actually have a say here. Dumfries is able to depart for one of the many clubs hoping to snap him up, Liverpool included.

But Inter aren't giving up. They've offered Dumfries a contract extension with a payrise - as long as he also agrees to remove that release clause.

If the player says no, then the likes of Liverpool are able to sign him this summer. Inter will hope that his decision is to remain put on more money - but the Reds could secure a proper bargain here if Dumfries feels it's the right time to move on.

Denzel Dumfries: Situation Summary

Serie A Performance and Injury Return

Denzel Dumfries has endured a challenging 2025–2026 season at Inter Milan, largely due to a significant ankle injury that sidelined him for over three months. As of April 8, 2026, the 29-year-old Dutch wing-back has recently returned to full fitness, marking his 200th appearance for the Nerazzurri in a victory over Roma. Despite his lengthy absence, he remains an important tactical asset, contributing one goal in Serie A and two in the Champions League this term. His physical dominance and work rate on the right flank continue to be key features of his game, though his offensive output has been limited compared to previous seasons as he regains his competitive rhythm.

Contract Status and Transfer Speculation

Dumfries’ future at the San Siro is subject to intense speculation as the summer 2026 transfer window approaches. While he is officially under contract until June 2028, reports on April 1 indicate that his representatives have offered his services to several Premier League clubs, including Liverpool, Manchester United, and Chelsea. The presence of a reported £21 million release clause has made him an attractive target for teams seeking experienced defensive reinforcements. Inter is reportedly open to a sale to help lower the average age of their squad, but they are also attempting to negotiate new terms to remove the clause. Dumfries remains focused on the Serie A title run-in before making a final decision on his next career step.
