It’s no secret Liverpool are scouring the market for reinforcements on the wings ahead of the summer transfer window.

Pace is sorely lacking out wide when first-choice pair Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah play - although there is genuine pace with Rio Ngumoha and Jeremie Frimpong in the lineup.

Accordingly new wingers are on the agenda for Richard Hughes - the Liverpool sporting director - and head coach Arne Slot.

The Premier League champions are crying out for players with one-v-one individual quality out wide - and that’s what makes Yan Diomande such an intriguing prospect.

Diomande, 19, has been at RB Leipzig since summer 2025 - signing for a bargain £18m from Leganes in Spain. The young Ivorian international has taken no time to acclimatise - emerging as one of the best wingers in the Bundesliga.

Bayern can't afford Diomande

He is under contract until 2030 - but it’s widely expected he will leave before then. Leipzig have reportedly placed a figure of €100m (£86m) for Diomande’s signature - making him available to only a select band of clubs.

Liverpool will be right there for the signature of Diomande - who can play either side of the attack - if a deal can be done.

The African talent seemingly has got a preference to represent the Reds - declaring it a dream to play at Anfield. And he may well have taken one more step towards fulfilling that wish with the news that Bayern Munich are going to stand aside in this transfer fight.

Liverpool among Premier League suitors for Diomande

Traditionally Bayern hoover up the best domestic talents - but owing to Diomande’s price tag - and the performances of Luis Diaz - the Bavarians are prepared to pass on this opportunity.

That’s according to Christian Falk - declaring to CF Bayern Insider that Premier League teams including Liverpool and Manchester United will instead contest Diomande’s signature.

“It’s hard for Bayern Munich, given they love the player, but they won’t be involved in the poker with Premier League clubs. He’s too expensive," he says.

Falk goes on to recount that Diomande can play either side of the attack - making him an attractive proposition for the Anfield club.

As long as they can afford the transfer fee - and the wages - this is a deal that appears to be looming closer.
