Not just Allan: Liverpool want deal for another Brazilian wonderkid
In recent weeks Liverpool have been linked with a £30m deal for Palmeiras sensation Allan.
But the 21-year-old is not the only young Brazilian talent on the Reds’ transfer radar.
There has been a clear shift in the Premier League champions’ transfer focus - with the likes of Jeremy Jacquet, Ifeanyi Ndukwe and Mor Talla Ndiaye best exemplifying that growing trend.
Sporting director Richard Hughes looks set to begin investing in outstanding young talents - allowing them to flourish in the Liverpool first team over time.
This is in contrast to last summer’s transfer splurge - when established talents like Hugo Ekitike, Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak were brought to the club.
Gabriel Mec a Liverpool target
And the identity of the latest Brazilian star to catch Reds’ recruiters’ eyes fits in with this strategy perfectly.
Because Portal do Gremista says that Liverpool are watching 17-year-old winger Gabriel Mec very closely. Gabriel has recently broken into the first-team setup at Gremio - and is now seen as one of the best emerging talents in the Brazilian game.
The Premier League champions may make a summer bid according to the report - with the teen sensation’s contract running until 2027.
He will have turned 18 by summer - when a move to Europe becomes a lot easier - but the Anfield club will have to watch out.
Benfica and Sporting come in for Gabriel Mec
Benfica are reported to have met with Mec’s entourage over a move to Portugal - while Lisbon rivals Sporting have also got a meeting scheduled according to the report.
Shakhtar Donetsk - long established as a destination for Brazilian talents - are also reported to be in the running.
Liverpool are due a shakeup in attack - on the wings in particular. Cody Gakpo is the only senior option on the left with teenager Rio Ngumoha his deputy.
On the right Mohamed Salah could leave for Saudi Arabia at the end of the season while Federico Chiesa is wanted in Serie A.
There could be opportunities therefore for aspiring young talents - and the name of Gabriel Mec is one to keep an eye on.
