Endrick thinks Liverpool sold midfielder even better than Joao Neves

Liverpool are considering a midfield rebuild if reports are to be believed.

We could see Alexis Mac Allister and Curtis Jones leave the club in summer amid uncertainty over their contract futures. That leaves the door open for midfield arrivals with the likes of Adam Wharton and Elliot Anderson among the players linked.

But Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes may well have already made a catastrophic midfield transfer error that can’t be fixed.

Last summer as the LFC exec attempted to rake in some much-needed transfer income Tyler Morton was sold for a song. The homegrown midfielder was sent packing to Lyon in Ligue 1 with the French side claiming the initial deal was worth less than £10m.

That was a snip for a player of Morton’s potential and no buyback clause was added to the sale either.

The England under-21 star has since flourished into one of the best No6s in Europe’s top five leagues - leaving the Premier League champions ruing his departure.

Endrick rates Tyler Morton higher than Joao Neves and Bouaddi

That transfer misstep has now been rammed home by Endrick - with the Lyon striker claiming that Morton is even BETTER than Joao Neves and Ayyoub Bouaddi.

Neves, 21, looks set to win a second consecutive double with Paris Saint-Germain and is rated as one of the very best midfielders around.

Bouaddi meanwhile is wanted by all the big clubs - Liverpool included - following an impressive couple of seasons with Lille.

Liverpool practically gave Morton away

Endrick was asked by Foot Mercato to choose between Morton, Neves and Bouaddi for a place in his ideal Ligue 1 XI of the season.

The 19-year-old had no qualms about naming the former Liverpool youth to the lineup - an incredible endorsement from one of the very best strikers in the game.

Neves is rated at over €100m according to Transfermarkt while Bouaddi is valued at €50m.

That means Richard Hughes drastically undersold Morton and it’s a travesty that Arne Slot could not find a place for him in his title-winning squad.

Tyler Morton: The one that got away

Morton had enjoyed successful loan spells prior to his return to work under Slot in summer 2024.

But the 23-year-old was frozen out by the Dutchman and endured plenty of injury trouble that season too along the way.

Now he is developing into a world-beater away from Anfield right at a time when his hometown club are considering a midfield rebuild.

What an example of the one that got away.
