Liverpool get chance to sign SPECTACULAR Brazil midfielder for only £26m
Liverpool declined to make a single midfield signing last summer.
The Reds added £450m worth of new players - including British record deals for Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak. And rather than recruit a midfielder, sporting director Richard Hughes opted to dispense with the services of three options in that position.
Out went Harvey Elliott and James McConnell on loan - although both could end up back at Anfield in January. And Tyler Morton was permitted to join Lyon - where he had been thriving.
The load on the Reds’ Premier League title-winning midfielders has been high in recent weeks - with the likes of Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, Curtis Jones and Wataru Endo all suffering some injuries.
Ederson back on the menu for Liverpool
Dominik Szoboszlai - meanwhile - has been used as a utility man and most recently lined up as a right-sided midfielder.
Accordingly it has been suggested that Hughes and head coach Arne Slot may improve their midfield options in the upcoming transfer windows.
Once mooted as a firm favourite at Anfield - the Brazil international starred over two legs as La Dea knocked Liverpool out of the Europa League en route to the title back in 2024.
Ederson available for €30m to €40m
It was widely expected the 26-year-old would depart that summer but instead he has remained with the Bergamo outfit ever since.
But with a contract expiring in 2027, there is an opportunity for interested clubs to conduct a bargain deal. In an interview with Cadena SER, agent Andre Cury has revealed that Ederson will be available for only €30m to €40m (£26m to £35m) owing to his expiring contract.
"Atalanta were asking for a lot of money, between 60 and 75 million euros, but now his contract is almost up, they could even halve the price, between 30 and 40 million,” he said.
“He's a spectacular player with some of the best statistics in Europe for his position.”
Barca lead the way for 'spectacular' Ederson
Cury then suggested that deal may be done with Barcelona for Ederson although the Catalans’ uncertain financial position may rule them out of the running.
“I'm friends with Deco and the Barcelona president,” Cury said.
“I do my job. I will always help them with transfers because I have a very special affection for Barcelona."
However Hughes and Slot would do well to take notice of Ederson’s potential availability for 2026 as he remains one of the best midfielders around.
