Liverpool scouts LOVE £87m Afcon super talent
Liverpool will seek to add to their attacking options in 2026.
Although sporting director Richard Hughes spent big on forwards last summer - recruiting Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak - there are indications that more arrivals are due.
On the left side of attack Liverpool could do with an upgrade on Cody Gakpo as Arne Slot has taken to using central playmaker Wirtz there in recent matches.
And on the right we could see Mohamed Salah replaced - either this January or else in summer 2026. The Egyptian King’s Anfield future is under threat - and the Premier League champions are doing their due diligence on wide attackers.
Yan Diomande is rated at £87m
One of the names who has shot up the list in recent months is Yan Diomande. The 19-year-old Ivorian has enjoyed a stratospheric rise since swapping Leganes in Spain for RB Leipzig over the summer.
The deal cost Jurgen Klopp’s club only £18m and there are signs that the Bundesliga outfit are ALREADY set to cash in on their wing wizard.
Diomande can play either side but has been excellent on the right in recent months - scoring six goals and providing three assists in an extraordinary six-game run in the German top flight before the winter break.
Under contract until 2030 - with no release clause - it has been estimated that Diomande could move for around €100m (£87m) next summer.
Liverpool love Yan Diomande
And Liverpool will be right there for the Africa Cup of Nations star’s signature - although they will have to fight it out with several top European clubs.
That’s according to a new report in TEAMtalk - which claims the Merseysiders’ recruiters are purring over Diomande.
“Liverpool have been watching him closely in recent months, and he has hugely impressed the Reds’ scouting team,” the report reads.
“Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United have all spoken with Diomande’s camp in recent weeks to register their interest, but they are not alone in their admiration with Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain all looking at him too.”
Liverpool have also been linked with Antoine Semenyo - but the Bournemouth winger now looks destined for Manchester City instead.
Therefore new wing options have to be sourced and Hughes will pull off a masterstroke if he can sort out a deal for Diomande.
