Liverpool WOWED by wonderkid while on vital scouting mission
Liverpool are off on a scouting mission right now and one wonderkid has wowed them. And at the perfect time, too.
Liverpool are in need of a new centre-back. Probably more than one, actually, as the situation has gotten complex at Anfield.
They always had to be on the lookout for someone as Ibrahima Konate’s contract expires at the end of the season and he’s yet to agree on a new one. The Reds must replace him with an elite option if he chooses to depart for elsewhere.
But Joe Gomez was also on the chopping block. The plan was for Marc Guehi to join from Crystal Palace, allowing Gomez to sign for AC Milan at the transfer deadline.
That all fell apart at the last minute, of course, but it certainly suggests that Gomez can (and likely will) leave.
Giovanni Leoni’s long-term injury is another problem Liverpool didn’t need. They’re now down to three for the season, creating a need for January movement.
And there might be an interesting option found on a scouting mission.
Liverpool eye Rion Ichihara
Rousing the Kop claims that Liverpool have been impressed by Japan Under 20 captain Rion Ichihara. Though, they’re not the only ones.
Ichihara is current in Chile at the Under 20 World Cup where he’s leading Japan as a centre-back. The 20-year-old plays his club football for RB Omiya Ardija, a Red Bull club.
Now, that certainly means that Red Bull Sazlburg and RB Leipzig would have the best shot at signing the youngster if he were to move to Europe. At the same time, a club like Liverpool would fancy turning his head.
And this might be the kind of signing Liverpool need right now. They’re after a young, fourth-choice centre-back who has the potential to move into third-choice.
Ichihara might be the type of low-cost addition who can deliver that, replacing Leoni’s spot in the squad with a reevaluation in the summer. After all, everything could change then with Konate’s contract situation.
One to watch, then? We think so.
