Liverpool WILL sign 'top winger'

Liverpool spent £450m in the summer transfer window.

Despite winning the 2024/25 Premier League title, sporting director Richard Hughes and head coach Arne Slot sought to make several changes.

Title-winners like Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz left - with the club breaking the British transfer record twice for their replacements.

Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak were among the highest-profile arrivals - but other deals were done for Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, Giovanni Leoni and Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Liverpool want new CB and winger

The scale of the upgrades means the Reds are unlikely to spend anything close to those sums in January or even next summer.

Transfer business is likely to be laser-focussed - and two priority positions appear to be emerging. It’s no secret that Liverpool wanted to sign Marc Guehi in the summer but missed out on the Crystal Palace captain on transfer deadline day.

A centre-back is a must - either in the winter window or else next summer - and that reality is acknowledged by a recent tweet from Florian Plettenberg - the German transfer expert.

He cites Guehi and Dayot Upamecano as the two most likely candidates to arrive - with both available on frees in summer 2026. And intriguingly the Sky Germany journalist also adds that the club are seeking a “top winger”.

“At Liverpool, there is currently a very relaxed outlook regarding the next two transfer windows,” he stated on X.

“Adjustments will be made, but not on the same scale as this past summer. For the centre-back position, Marc Guéhi and Dayot Upamecano are among the candidates.

“In addition, the club are still searching for a top winger.”

Liverpool could sign Olise or Semenyo

The likes of Antoine Semenyo and Michael Olise have been named as potential Liverpool signings for 2026.

Semenyo, 25, has been in sensational form for Bournemouth in the Premier League while Olise is one of the most discussed players in the European game since his move to Bayern Munich last summer.
