Richard Hughes wants to sign England captain
Liverpool are always looking to add experience to their squad.
Virgil Van Dijk is in the team for the next two years thanks to a contract extension, but his leadership skills are integral to the side and at 34 years old, he sadly won't be Liverpool's captain forever.

Nonetheless, the recruitment team has been putting together an impressive group. The Egyptian, Hungarian, Dutch, Scottish and Japanese international captains are all wearing the Red shirt.
One potential move this summer is for Marc Guehi at Crystal Palace who is the Eagles' captain, so it seems as though the club are hoping to continue their strategy of having leaders across the pitch.
As such, it should not be surprising that the England captain is now on the club's radar.
Liverpool pursue England captain
Now while this is not the previously-linked senior Mens England captain - which would be Harry Kane - the U17 captain is drawing the club's attention right now and that is 16-year-old Seth Ridgeon.
The teenager is a midfielder at Fulham's academy and he is proving his own in their U18s set-up.
In 13 games for the Cottagers, he has scored five goals, constantly running across the pitch to help out his teammates then they need him and pressing on and off the ball.
According to Jacob Steinberg at The Guardian, the Reds' are one of four potential suitors.
In his latest update on X, he said: "Fulham are yet to retain England U17 captain, Seth Ridgeon. Manchester United, Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea are all pursuing the 16-year-old midfielder who us yet to make a decision on his future. Fulham now giving up hope of keeping him."
As such, the competition is going to be fierce, and he would be a big scalp for the academy.
Liverpool's last major addition to the youth setup was Armin Pecsi, who will bolster the goalkeeping department, and before him, we saw Rio Ngumoha join from Chelsea who has already impressed.

Hopefully, the Reds will come out on top once again. The focus isn't always on securing transfers for the first team and with just as much emphasis being placed on enhancing the club's future.
