Federico Chiesa is enduring another difficult season at Liverpool.

The Italian winger signed for the Reds back in September 2024 - inking a deal to 2028. He cost a fee which could reach £12.5m - with contract standoff at former club Juventus paving the way for a cut-price deal.

Richard Hughes was hoping that Chiesa would get back to his best levels - which saw him become a key figure for Italy during their Euro 2020 tournament victory.

But the truth is we’ve only seen glimpses of the 28-year-old at his best in a Liverpool shirt.

He contributed minimally during the 2024/25 Premier League title win and although he has come into prominence a little more this season he has never made himself a favourite of Arne Slot.

Juventus close to landing Chiesa in January

Accordingly it was reckoned that Liverpool were prepared to do business for the forward in the winter window.

Juventus came closest to attracting Chiesa back to Serie A - with a place in Italy’s FIFA World Cup qualification playoff squad up for grabs.

But the clubs could not work out a formula over a deal - with Juve seeking to make it a six-month loan deal and the Reds looking for a permanent move.

Now Virgilio Sport has revealed Liverpool’s demands for Chiesa - stating that the club were seeking a whopping £17m for Chiesa.

Liverpool wanted £17m for Chiesa deal

“Juventus is the club that has made concrete moves to bring back the son of a talented player,” the report reads.

“However, it was no use. The six-month loan deal proposed by Comolli didn't convince Liverpool, who would have given the green light to the Ligurian winger's departure only if he were to be sold permanently for a fee around €20 million.”

Initially it was reckoned that the Anfield club would ask for their money back on Chiesa in a deal worth around £12m.

But they effectively priced their winger out of a move back to his home country as Juve were never going to be able to afford a £17m outlay as well as Chiesa’s wage demands - estimated at around £150k per week.

With Mo Salah back from the Africa Cup of Nations it’s unlikely that Chiesa will move up Arne Slot’s pecking order any time soon.

He could be set for a frustrating few months on the sidelines with his ambitions of a move back to Serie A now at an end.
