Richard Hughes has seen enough: FIVE new signings are coming

Liverpool conducted a record-breaking transfer window last summer.

Sporting director Richard Hughes oversaw £450m worth of spending - including British record deals for Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz.

Others - including Giovanni Leoni, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez and Hugo Ekitike were recruited at significant cost.

But it doesn’t appear to be enough.

The Premier League champions are putting up what is in truth a pretty poor title defence - slumping at one stage of the season to six defeats out of seven.

Liverpool could make up to FIVE new signings

It is clear that Arne Slot’s squad STILL needs work despite those sums being lavished last summer. The squad has looked unbalanced at times this season and injuries in key positions have really caused a lot of damage.

Factor in the uncertainty around Ibrahima Konate and Mohamed Salah - expected to leave next summer - and you can see why plenty of changes are imminent.

A report in TEAMtalk now claims that the Reds could be looking at as many as FIVE first-team signings in the summer transfer window as Slot and Hughes seek to arrest the decline and get the Merseysiders back to their title-winning best.

Liverpool looking at defenders and midfielders

“Liverpool could look at four or five more significant signings at the end of this season,” the report reads.

“They are still very much going into the market for a centre-back, despite deciding not to get involved in a battle with Manchester City to sign Marc Guehi.

“And there are also hints that the Reds will sign another right-back, left-back and a central midfielder. They may even sign a new right sided attacker if Mohamed Salah leaves.”

Liverpool have been linked with the likes of Alessandro Bastoni and Micky van de Ven at centre-back - while a right-back signing in the shape of Vanderson, Marco Palestra, Givairo Read or Alex Freeman could be looked at in light of Conor Bradley’s availability issues.

At left-back Andy Robertson is going to leave so a new deputy for Milos Kerkez will be required although no concrete names have yet emerged in that sector.

Central midfielders including Ayyoub Bouaddi, Eduardo Camavinga and Sandro Tonali have been looked at - while up front Yan Diomande looks to be the outstanding candidate to replace Salah.

Last summer was a landmark one for the Anfield side and summer 2026 is already shaping up to be just as epic.
