Liverpool look set for a summer transfer spending spree. Although the club secured the Premier League title - at the first time of asking for head coach Arne Slot - they are not standing still.

We could see big alterations at centre forward, where Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota are at risk. Several candidates have been tipped to arrive, including Joao Pedro and Hugo Ekitike.

But the changes won’t stop there.

Liverpool’s 2024/25 title win owed plenty to the performances in midfield. Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai were outstanding throughout the course of the season, with Curtis Jones also impressing as a rotation option.

But with big prizes to be contested next season, and with a defence of the Premier League title in store, Arne Slot will require more numbers in the centre of midfield.

Liverpool admire Quinten Timber

That’s why we have seen transfer links to Angelo Stiller, Morten Frendrup, Nicolo Rovella and others.

Sporting director Richard Hughes may also sanction a move for an old Slot favourite at Feyenoord.

Quinten Timber, 23, hasn’t played since February 2025 owing to a lateral cruciate ligament injury - picked up in the Champions League against AC Milan.

Liverpool have been reported as being among the clubs monitoring the Dutch international’s recovery. That’s according to a new report in Caught Offside, which claims Feyenoord are prepared to cash in on their captain whose contract expires in just 12 months.

“Feyenoord would be willing to listen to offers in the region of €25–30 million should Timber decline to sign a new deal,” a report reads.

“That valuation has not deterred a host of admirers, with Premier League clubs such as Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, and Manchester United all keeping tabs on the situation.

“Interest has also emerged from top-flight clubs in Italy, Germany, and Spain.”

Timber stalling on new deal

Timber was a mainstay of Arne Slot during his days as Feyenoord coach and has previously been on Liverpool's radar.

The central midfielder played 74 times for the Dutchman at De Kuip - scoring 11 times and making 12 assists. Together they won the Eredivisie title in 2023 - and followed up that success with a Dutch cup.

Timber’s current contract expires in 2026 with no signals that he is prepared to sign a new one. That could mean if everything goes to plan with his recovery then he could be a cut-price option for Slot’s midfield.

Capable of playing centre midfield - or in a more advanced attacking position - Timber scored six goals in 16 Eredivisie outings last term before his injury.
