There is a considerable amount of uncertainty right now regarding the future of Liverpool’s defence.

It looks like Ibrahima Konate will be leaving on a free once the season ends as the Frenchman’s contract expires in summer 2026.

And just a little further down the line the contracts of Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk are due to expire in 2027. Van Dijk will be replaced by a big-money European star - a player like Nico Schlotterbeck or Alessandro Bastoni.

But what about a replacement for Gomez? This season the England man has grown in prominence under Arne Slot - playing at both centre-back and right-back.

With his contract ticking down - and long-standing question marks against his ability to stay fit - it would be no surprise to see the 28-year-old leave.

And into his place could come a 22-year-old Germany international - who has already approved a move to Anfield.

Nnamdi Collins praises 'fantastic' Liverpool

Back in September Eintracht Frankfurt’s Nnamdi Collins green-lit an Anfield switch by naming the Premier League champions as his ideal club in an interview with Kicker.

"I'm incredibly happy in Frankfurt, but I also think the Premier League is fantastic, especially Liverpool,” the defender said.

Since then Collins has grown in prominence - coming to the fore under new coach Albert Riera who himself is a former Liverpool winger.

Collins has also changed agents - now being represented by Moussa Sissoko - and that could precede a big-money summer departure.

Collins 'indispensable' to Frankfurt

“With Rasmus Kristensen and Arthur Theate sidelined for weeks with injuries, the 1.88-meter-tall defender is indispensable,” a report in Kicker reads.

Last week he was quizzed on his future plans with the player’s current contract expiring in 2030.

"I'm just as clueless as you guys,” he revealed.

“What you read in the media is new to me too. I always have to chuckle a bit. My full focus is here on Eintracht. We want to continue climbing the table, so it would be unprofessional to think about other clubs right now.”

Nnamdi Collins: Situation summary

Nnamdi Collins has emerged as one of the Bundesliga’s most promising young defenders at Eintracht Frankfurt, combining elite athleticism with growing defensive maturity.

Standing around 1.88–1.91m, he is quick across the ground, aggressive in duels and comfortable operating as a centre-back or on the right of a back four, with coaches also using him at full-back to exploit his recovery pace and 1v1 defending.

His game is built on front‑foot defending, attacking the ball early and stepping out to intercept, while his speed over distance allows Frankfurt to hold a higher line and squeeze the pitch.

Collins joined Frankfurt from Borussia Dortmund in 2023 and signed an initial five‑year deal to 2028, which was extended in late 2024 to run until 2030, reflecting his rise under successive coaches.

The extension reportedly came without a release clause, leaving Frankfurt in a strong position ahead of expected summer interest.

Even so, multiple outlets in Germany and England report that he is keen to “take the next step” and has a particular ambition to play for Liverpool, with Liverpool and Arsenal among the clubs to have scouted him live this season.

Frankfurt are viewed as under no pressure to sell and are expected to demand a premium fee if they sanction a move in 2026.
