Liverpool to surprise with early BLOCKBUSTER transfer
Liverpool are ready to spring a surprise with an early blockbuster transfer. The Reds aren't messing around.
Liverpool's centre-back situation needs a fix - that much is clear. The Reds are currently down to three senior options after Giovanni Leoni's knee injury.
But that's just the tip of the iceberg, really. Liverpool have already failed to make one massive change to their backline as they attempted to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace.
That deal fell apart, unfortunately, as Palace pulled the plug right at the last minute. It was a deal that was supposed to see Joe Gomez move on, too, but he remains at the club with an uncertain future.
Then there's Ibrahima Konate. His contract expires in the summer, and can discuss terms with non-English clubs from January 1st.
He'll leave for free as things stand, again forcing Liverpool to look at the centre-back market. And it sounds as though they might try to fix the problem in a big way.
Liverpool and Nico Schlotterbeck
Bild reports that Liverpool are keen on Nico Schlottbeck, who has a lot of interest in him right now. The Borussia Dortmund star’s contract expires in 2027 and he’s yet to agree on an extension.
Failing to do so would essentially force Dortmund into selling him next year. They won’t want to miss out on a fee for arguably their most valuable player.
But the report claims Liverpool may try and get ahead of all the competition and attempt a January transfer. Everyone hoping to sign Schlotterbeck is aiming for the summer - but a bumper bid could send him to Anfield early.
The Reds have an increased need to sign a new centre-back after Leoni’s injury and perhaps Schlotterbeck is the one. It certainly appears that Liverpool are going to try a blockbuster move - potentially getting them a Konate or Van Dijk successor in the process.
What a signing this could be.
