Several Liverpool forwards were cleared out last summer in order to make way for new arrivals.

We saw Luis Diaz join Bayern Munich for around £60m while Darwin Nunez left in a £46m deal for Al-Hilal. Ben Gannon-Doak was also a departure - joining Bournemouth for £20m.

In came Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz - for British record fees - while Jeremie Frimpong and Hugo Ekitike also helped to fill out Arne Slot’s attacking options.

One player who managed to stay and fight for his future last summer was Federico Chiesa.

Chiesa fights his way back into contention

At one stage last season it seemed the 28-year-old’s Liverpool career was doomed before it really began. It took the winger an age to get fit and he did little to impress Slot in his occasional cameos.

The former Juventus forward was not taken to Asia as part of the preseason touring squad - and the writing appeared to be on the wall. But he fought back - gaining minutes in the first Premier League game of the season and scoring into the bargain.

But the rumours have never really gone away. Chiesa has been linked with a speedy return to Serie A and he has had plenty of interest over the last year or so.

Chiesa still in demand in Serie A

AC Milan, Roma and Napoli have probably been the closest to landing Chiesa - who has got a desire to be in Italy’s World Cup squad in 2026 should they make it.

And now reports have emerged linking Chiesa with a move to Napoli once again. Under contract until 2028, it’s believed Italian teams would have an issue paying Chiesa what he earns at Anfield - said to be around £120k per week.

The Serie A leaders have run into a patch of sticky form in recent weeks and could be rejuvenated by the arrival of a new player in the shape of Chiesa.

Napoli hoping to convince Liverpool for Chiesa deal

“Napoli will make another attempt for Chiesa,” reads a report in Napoli Magazine.

“They'll try again, perhaps hoping this time to convince him to leave Liverpool.”

Right now there are no indications that Chiesa would leave. He has been more involved for the Reds this season - but let’s see where he ends up when the likes of Frimpong and Alexander Isak are back fit.

He has appeared 11 times for Arne Slot’s side this season - but his only two starts have come in the EFL Cup.
