Liverpool MUST have special transfer brewing
There are signs that Liverpool have a truly special transfer brewing here. The Reds could be about to do something crazy.
Liverpool went into this summer with a massive plan. They want to overhaul their team, improving on a title-winning squad in a major way.
Report: Michael Edwards AGREES deal to leave Liverpool
It's something that essentially never happens. After all, if you've won the title then you've already got the best team in the league, right?
Liverpool don't think so. At the very least, they feel this is Jurgen Klopp's squad and a group of players built around Arne Slot's own ideas can deliver even more.
Anfield Watch revealed back in February that an overhaul was underway. Now we're seeing what that looks like.
Florian Wirtz is the headline act. Liverpool will complete a deal to sign the playmaker next week but we don't believe they'll stop there.
In fact, the signs point to something very special happening.

Liverpool must have something special brewing
There are two stages to an overhaul. First, you've got to find the players you want, then you've got to move out the players you don't.
That's the order - you can't sell players without knowing you're going to upgrade them. It's far too risky and just an impractical way of doing things.
And that makes the Darwin Nunez situation a strange one to watch. Liverpool appear to be very open about selling him and Fabrizio Romano reports that they've told Nunez he's off.
It's public knowledge now - a 'guaranteed exit' as Romano says - something that puts Liverpool in a weakened negotiating position. And we're not sure why they'd be so adamant about selling Nunez unless they knew a big upgrade was on the way.
Because it would have to be a special signing to actually upgrade on Nunez. His output at Liverpool is decent, even if everyone would agree it should be better.
But you can't replace him with any old striker - it would have to be one good enough to deliver everything the Uruguayan does plus goals. Such a striker doesn't come cheap.

Again, though, Liverpool are giving off signs that they've found that player and are willing to move Nunez on as a result. Suggestions of a second €100m signing after Wirtz are there and we think this is yet another sign pointing in that direction.
