Not just Salah: Key Liverpool star offered chance to join Richard Hughes in Saudi Arabia
It’s no secret that Saudi Arabian football chiefs are planning to sign Mohamed Salah someday.
The Egyptian King is under contract until 2027 - and there remains the possibility he goes to the Saudi Pro League on a free when his £400k per week deal expires.
However it would be no surprise to see the 33-year-old leave at the end of the current season for the SPL if the money is right. And Salah could yet be joined in the Kingdom by Richard Hughes - with Liverpool’s sporting director under consideration by Al-Hilal.
Saudi interest in Liverpool doesn’t end there however amid reports that the Public Investment Fund - which controls four big clubs - wants to sign Ibrahima Konate.
And if it comes down to money there is a good chance that the Saudis blow Liverpool out of the water.
PIF wants Konate deal
Konate, 26, is reported to be seeking £200k or more as part of his contract negotiations. Hughes has been unable - or unwilling - to meet those demands and it’s opened up the possibility of Konate departing in summer 2026 when his current deal ends.
Real Madrid and Inter are both reported to be keen on landing the France international according to Sports Boom but they also claim that Saudi Arabia will be right there for the defender’s signature.
“Saudi football chiefs will look to tempt Ibrahima Konate to the Kingdom this summer if Real Madrid and Internazionale decide against firming-up their interest in the Liverpool centre-half,” the report reads.
“The money men tasked with growing the Saudi Pro League are also interested in tabling an offer.”
Liverpool still hoping for Konate contract breakthrough
PIF controls Al-Ahli, Al-Ittihad, Al-Hilal, and Al-Nassr - clubs who boast the best-paid talent in the league.
It would be likely that Konate ends up at one of those four teams if he is to take the Saudi lucre on offer this summer.
Liverpool will be hoping to make a contract breakthrough soon - otherwise Konate will be off to Madrid, Inter Milan or further afield in the Middle East alongside Richard Hughes and Salah.
