A NEW forward is coming to Liverpool
Liverpool spent £450m in last summer’s record-breaking transfer window.
Among the incomings were several new forwards. Sporting director Richard Hughes spent big on British-record deals for Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz.
He also sanctioned a £69m deal for Hugo Ekitike - with the Frenchman proving excellent since coming in from Eintracht Frankfurt.
But there are signs the Reds are not done there.
The Premier League champions have run into the same problem again and again this season. Arne Slot has admitted his team’s trouble in playing against the so-called “low block” and also struggle in one-v-one duels as an attacking force.
New winger coming to Liverpool
That means a new winger is on the cards next summer - one which matches the current requirements of the side better than the usual options.
Mo Salah and Cody Gakpo could each be replaced at the end of the season. Salah, 33, is again looming into focus as a potential recruit for teams in the Saudi Pro League.
Al-Ittihad are emerging as the chief candidates for the Egyptian King since getting Karim Benzema and N'Golo Kante off the wage bill.
And Gakpo has struggled this term with his goalscoring output far beneath what he produced last season.
Diomande and Minteh among wingers linked
And according to James Pearce in the Athletic a wide attacker WILL be Richard Hughes’ transfer priority in next summer’s window.
“Given the need for more pace to help break down low blocks, at least one wide attacker appears destined to be on Liverpool’s summer shopping list,” the report reads.
Liverpool have been linked with plenty of wide attackers in recent weeks - including Yankuba Minteh of Brighton and Yan Diomande of RB Leipzig.
And what about Endrick?
Another interesting name could prove to be Endrick - more adept at playing through the middle but whose heat map shows him playing quite wide at times.
He has been in terrific form for Lyon since completing a six-month loan deal and has been tipped as a Liverpool player in waiting in some media reports.
