Liverpool or nothing: Midfielder DESTINED for January deal

Liverpool added £450m worth of new signings in the summer transfer window - including British record deals for Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz.

However the club have now lost nine of their last 12 matches and it’s clear that sporting director Richard Hughes’ plan for the squad isn’t working out.

Head coach Arne Slot just cannot seem to formulate a plan for the new-look Liverpool squad and sees his side in 12th place in the table.

Accordingly it has been suggested that we could see even MORE movement in the upcoming January transfer window.

Liverpool could call Elliott back from loan

And one move which could open up is the return to the club of Harvey Elliott.

The 22-year-old joined Aston Villa on a one-season loan deal back on transfer deadline day - with a view to the move becoming permanent should certain criteria be met.

The England under-21 star must play in 10 games for Unai Emery’s side and then they will be obligated to pay £35m to secure his signing.

But right now it’s looking ever more likely that Villa won’t take up their option.

Harvey Elliott frozen out by Emery

Elliott has played barely 90 minutes across four Premier League outings for the Villans - and hasn’t been named to the squad for ANY of their last four top-flight matches.

In fact the creative midfielder has not played any first-team football since October 2.

It very much looks like Villa are going to restrict his appearances - meaning they will not be obliged to pay for his permanent transfer.

Liverpool may opt to cut the loan deal short in January in order to boost their own midfield and attacking options.

Mo Salah hasn’t been in terrific form this season - while Florian Wirtz is taking his time to settle in. Elliott can cover right-wing, No10 and even an attacking midfield position should Arne Slot require it.

Elliott could return in 'shock twist'

And a report in TEAMtalk suggests that a transfer twist in the new year could see Elliott back at Anfield.

Harvey Elliott is increasingly unlikely to be signed permanently by Aston Villa, and he could end up back with Liverpool in a shock twist, to give Arne Slot another option in attack this season,” the report reads.

"Because Elliott played for Liverpool at the start of this term, he cannot join another side in January. Due to UEFA and FIFA transfer rules, you are not allowed to play for three clubs in a single season.

"Therefore, it could be back to Liverpool or bust."

The playmaker joined Liverpool back in 2019 - going on to win two Premier League titles. He is under contract until 2027 - meaning that next summer is the Reds’ final chance to make some decent money on his exit.
