A deal has been struck with Eintracht Frankfurt to allow for a move and will potentially cost Liverpool around €91m. A massive deal, then, but one that should secure them a long-term striker.

Ekitike is only 23, after all. He’s one of the best all-around strikers in Europe already, with the potential to improve tremendously.

After all, Ekitike probably should have scored more goals than he did last season. Any improvement in that regard would place him comfortably among the best in the world - and that’s what Liverpool are banking on here.

They’re willing to pay the price of a finished article, essentially, in order to be the club that gets to control Ekitike’s future.

And this one is now very close.

Hugo Ekitike medical

Ekitike will undergo his Liverpool medical today (Tuesday, 22nd July) ahead of completing the move from Frankfurt. If all goes well, this should be sealed within the next day or two.

The Frenchman will then head out to Asia and be a part of Liverpool’s pre-season tour. The squad is currently in Hong Kong where they’ll face AC Milan before heading to Japan and a fixture with Yokohama.

And so it shouldn’t be long before we get an idea of what Arne Slot and co. want out of Ekitike. He’s the second elite forward to join the club this summer, providing everything goes to plan, after Florian Wirtz.

There’s a feeling that Liverpool won’t stop there, either. Darwin Nunez is expected to leave the club, while both Federico Chiesa and Luis Diaz are strongly linked with exits.
