Marc Guehi is WAITING for contract offer
Liverpool came close to signing Marc Guehi on transfer deadline day. A deal worth an initial £35m was agreed with Crystal Palace - only for the FA Cup holders to withdraw at the last minute.
Owing to a failure to land a replacement - with Igor Julio instead moving to West Ham - Palace decided they couldn’t afford to lose their captain.
Nonetheless, his time at Selhurst Park is likely to be coming to an end before long as Guehi is out of contract in 2026. Liverpool will of course be right there for the England international when he chooses his next club.
The problem is that the Premier League champions have lost their exclusive run at the centre-back.
Liverpool lose out on Guehi
Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Barcelona as well as Tottenham have all been mentioned as potential destinations for the 25-year-old - who promises to be the biggest Bosman deal of summer 2026.
And unfortunately for Liverpool it would appear that a deal for Guehi is moving further from view. First a report from Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany suggests that Guehi is waiting to hear from one club in particular.
Guehi is WAITING for Madrid
"[He is] waiting to see whether Real Madrid make a move,” according to the German transfer expert.
Of course that could well mean that Madrid give up their ambitions to sign Ibrahima Konate - whose contract situation is one of the big reasons why Liverpool are in the market for a defender in the first place.
And then comes a report from TEAMtalk which states that Guehi will make NO pledge to Liverpool even though he came close to signing for them over summer.
Guehi feels 'no obligation' towards LFC
It would appear negotiations will be reset between the Reds’ sporting director Richard Hughes and the Englishman.
“Marc Guehi feels no obligation to sign with Liverpool in 2026 despite his closest of calls with the Reds over the summer,” reads a report.
“Guehi will treat Liverpool the same as all others who knock on his door during the season.”
So for Guehi at least Liverpool could be back to square one - after squandering their advantage last summer.
Instead we could see deals completed for other centre-backs - such as Ronald Araujo or Ousmane Diomande. One thing is for sure however and it’s that Liverpool’s centre-back situation remains in flux.
