Liverpool’s chances of Marc Guehi deal after BOMBSHELL Oliver Glasner statement

Crystal Palace head coach Oliver Glasner made it official on Friday that Marc Guehi would be leaving at the end of the season.

Club captain Guehi, 25, is out of contract in summer 2026 and has indicated to higher-ups at Selhurst Park that he wishes to move on.

It comes as no great surprise that Guehi won’t sign a new contract with the FA Cup holders. He had been tipped for a summer exit - allowing the Eagles to earn some transfer income on his departure - but a last-minute hitch saw a deal with Liverpool fall apart.

The Premier League champions were willing to pay £35m upfront for Guehi - but owing to Palace’s failure to land a replacement the deal was called off at the 11th hour.

Euro giants come in for Guehi

Guehi is likely to stay put for the entire season - rather than leave in January - in order for Palace to best fulfil their objectives. But the problem for Liverpool is that they have now lost their clear run at Guehi.

They were the only club in the frame to sign him on transfer deadline day - but have surrendered that advantage as he now plans to leave on a free.

European clubs will be entitled to speak to Guehi from January onwards in the anticipation of thrashing out a lucrative free transfer. That leaves Liverpool behind the likes of Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Real Madrid in the chase for the stopper’s signature.

Madrid and Barca favourites for Guehi

And according to Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol, it looks like Spain’s Clasico duo will be the ones battling it out for the Englishman.

“Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Liverpool are just some of the clubs who want him,” he said.

“If I had to put money on it, I would say he's going to end up next summer playing for Real Madrid or Barcelona.

"Those clubs now have an advantage because they can sign a pre-contract agreement with him in January, which Premier League clubs obviously can't do.”

Have Liverpool got one more card to play?

It looks like Liverpool have only got one more card to play in any deal for Guehi - offering Crystal Palace a transfer fee for their skipper in the January window.

Having seen a bid of £35m ultimately rejected in summer, it isn’t known what kind of money the Londoners would be looking for.

However, given that Palace are seemingly resigned to losing Guehi on a free now, it’s unlikely they would get rid of their talisman mid-season.

“Premier League clubs could make Crystal Palace a big offer for him in January,” Solhekol said.

“But how big would it be considering he's going to be a free agent in the summer?

"Speaking to some people at other Premier League clubs, they're telling me is the feeling is that Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich are all interested in signing him, and they definitely will have the advantage.”
