Liverpool may well be signalling Luis Diaz's exit from Anfield. They've entered talks over a replacement.

Luis Diaz's future is firmly up in the air despite his best season in a Liverpool shirt so far. The Colombian scored 13 Premier League goals across the title-winning campaign, assisting another five.

The problem comes from his contract. Diaz has two years remaining on his deal, which is the initial deal he signed when moving to Anfield in 2022.

There have been no pay bumps, no extensions, and little to convince Diaz that Liverpool are ready to invest in him further. Then comes the interest from elsewhere hoping to capitalise on that.

Barcelona are eager to sign Diaz, with sporting director Deco viewing him as an ideal signing. There's also interest from Al-Nassr, who hope to find a blockbuster summer signing.

Would Liverpool sell? We imagine they would for a major offer - Diaz is 28, not quite an untouchable member of the team, and this is the final chance to get a substantial fee for him.

So with that in mind, new Liverpool talks appear to be very notable.

Malick Fofana in, Luis Diaz Out?

L'Équipe reports that Liverpool have entered discussions with agency Roc Nation over Malick Fofana. The Lyon star is a wanted man right now after 11 goals last season.

Liverpool are now one of the teams seeing if a deal is possible and that's immediately interesting. The Reds have two left-wingers in their first-team squad with both Diaz and Cody Gakpo.

It seems incredibly unlikely that Fofana would want to move to Anfield and compete with two senior players. It also seems unlikely that Liverpool would pay money to have three left-wingers.

The deal only really makes sense if Diaz is off, with Fofana then a perfect backup to Gakpo. The hope there would be that the Belgian develops as everyone expects, surpassing the Dutchman and taking the spot for himself.

That's the kind of competition Liverpool like: an established starter and a player who has what it takes to overtake him in the pecking order.

We just don't see why there would be any interest in Fofana unless Diaz is off. There is the case where Gakpo is the one to leave - but that seems a lot less likely at this stage.

Either way, the Fofana interest points to a major exit one way or another.
