Liverpool star Luis Diaz has been told to ‘think about it’ when it comes to leaving the Reds. He’s reportedly getting an offer from La Liga.

Luis Diaz has enjoyed a brilliant end to the season with Liverpool. The Colombian has bagged 13 Premier League goals en route to wining the title and he’s done it across two positions.

That’s been the real magic of Diaz’s season. Arne Slot hasn’t had a reliable no.9 all campaign long, with Darwin Nunez struggling for form and Diogo Jota struggling for fitness (and then form).

Slot turned to Diaz as a result, asking him to operate centrally between Cody Gakpo and Mo Salah. It’s worked, too - some of Liverpool’s most impressive performances this season have come with that setup.

The most notable might have been the 4-0 demolition of Bayer Levekusen at Anfield in which Diaz scored a hattrick. At his best, he’s been phenomenal.

And yet, Liverpool might just sell this summer. There’s now interest in Diaz and it’s entirely possible that the Reds move on.

Luis Diaz is a wanted man

EPSN are among those claiming Barcelona have Luis Diaz at the top of their summer shortlist. The links have been there for a while, with sporting director Deco a big fan of the Colombian since his time with FC Porto.

There have been links for a couple of years as a result. Now they’re at fever pitch and the suggestion is that Barcelona could make their big push this summer.

It’s not an easy transfer to pull off, though. Liverpool want a large fee for a player who has been effective this season and they’re not going to let him go on the cheap.

At the same time, Diaz’s contract expires in 2027 and talks have stalled for a while now. He remains on his initial contract upon joining in 2022 and wants a big pay-rise to sign a new deal.

Liverpool, then, must sell this summer if they want ‘full value’ for Diaz. They’re never getting it when he’s 29 and with one year on his contract in 2026.

But there’s another angle here. Colombian journalist Carlos Antonio Velez believes Diaz would be wrong to leave Liverpool for Barcelona.

“Seriously?” he wrote on Twitter. "Is it worth leaving where you are to join a team that plays in Champions League finals every 10 or more years and/or to be Raphinha's backup?

"It doesn't even seem like a decent deal...think about it, Lucho!!!"

He does touch on an important factor here: is Raphinha leaving? If not, it’s difficult to see why Diaz would want to go and be a backup player.

Of course, he may be willing to play a slightly reduced role in order to earn more money and live in Barcelona. Let’s not rule that out.

But it’s not a completely straightforward decision. What it is, though, is one of the biggest facing Liverpool this summer.
