Sky Sports are among those saying he passed his medical on Monday. Now all that’s really left is the official bits - paying the fee and signing the contract.

Both should be formalities at this point. Frimpong is eager to join Liverpool and expected to sign, while the release clause in his contract eliminates any need to negotiate with Bayer Leverkusen.

Liverpool are securing a fantastic deal here for a very talented player. One who offers plenty of options in Arne Slot’s squad.

But there’s one particular teammate who should get a real boost from this move. It’s a fantastic signing for Mo Salah.

Jeremie Frimpong x Mo Salah

Mo Salah has had an absolutely incredible season - but it hasn’t been perfect. The Egyptian has struggled over the last two months, presumably because of exhaustion.

That won’t be the only reason, mind. Salah is also a victim of being the only player in Liverpool’s squad offering consistent goals and assists.

Teams know full well that shutting down Salah and giving him no space, even at the cost of gifting space to others, makes life difficult for Liverpool. It’s particularly a problem given the winger plays very wide in this team, offering the majority of the width on the right flank.

It means Salah, now 32 and having played almost every fixture this season, struggles to get into dangerous areas. That’s had a real effect on him over the last two months.

There is a way ‘out’ of it, though. Teams can’t afford to push Salah all the way out wide and leave space if Liverpool players attack that space.

We’ve seen it against both Arsenal and Brighton in the last two games. In the former, Liverpool’s second goal came from Salah picking the ball up quite deep and with a team of defenders between him and the goal.

Dominik Szoboszlai, however, made a brilliant run in behind, Salah found him, and the Hungarian setup a tap-in for Luis Diaz. And then we saw a repeat of this at Brighton.

Salah again received the ball deep but Conor Bradley ran on the underlap. The Egyptian found him and Bradley produced brilliance up against one defender to give Harvey Elliott a goal.

This is how Salah gets back to his best and possibly even improves. The latter, in particular, shows how having a direct, aggressive full-back prevents teams from completely shutting him down.

Direct too much attention towards Salah and he’ll hurt you in other ways as teammates run into the space you’ve left. It’s something Frimpong is absolutely brilliant at, as is Bradley.

Having that consistently down the right flank will naturally afford Salah the kind of space he had earlier in the season. Then there’s the ability to have those runs wider and allowing Liverpool’s star forward to drift further inside and influence the game in more dangerous areas.

Salah has always been brilliant with Trent Alexander-Arnold behind him. At this stage of his career, though, we think having someone like Frimpong will benefit him far more.

It will give him more space, more options, and potentially allow him more freedom to get in the box. A better version of Salah?

Liverpool genuinely may have found a way to make that happen.
