Liverpool given bright green light to SIGN £84m superstar
Liverpool have been given a brilliant green light to sign a club's superstar. Now will Richard Hughes get it done?
Richard Hughes was appointed Liverpool's sporting director nearly a year ago now, though he didn't officially take the role until last summer. Since then, we haven't seen all that much.

After all, the main role there is to sign players. Hughes has had a difficult time in that regard, having prioritised the signing of Martin Zubimendi.
He had it pretty much done, too. In another time, Zubimendi would be a Liverpool player right now but the midfielder ultimately decided - right at the last minute - to remain with Real Sociedad.
That was a blow, of course, but Hughes did get two others over the line. Giorgi Mamardashvili will join Liverpool next summer from Valencia, while Federico Chiesa was a budget-friendly gamble from Juventus.
Neither, though, are the type of superstar-signing that Liverpool fans are after. After all, one's a goalkeeper who isn't quite as good as Alisson the jury is very much out on Chiesa.
But that could change soon. One club is practically begging for Liverpool to sign their superstar.
Jamie Gittens and Liverpool
Bild's Christian Falk writes in his Daily Briefing that Liverpool are on the list of clubs looking to sign Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund. Now, they're not alone in that.
Manchester United, Chelsea and Bayern Munich also want to sign Gittens, who is expected to cost around £84m later this year. It's Liverpool, though, who have the upper hand.
That's because Dortmund don't want to sell Gittens to Bayern. They're hoping to sell him aboard, rather than lost another star to Bavaria.
It makes the Premier League trio the favourites - and hands them a green light to bid here. But we'd argue that it hands the brightest green light to Liverpool.
After all, it's the Reds who will stand the greatest chance of convincing Gittens to join. They're far more likely to be a UEFA Champions League side than United and possibly Chelsea. They're also competing for the biggest trophies.
Gittens is far more likely to hold out for Bayern if it's the other two English sides pushing to sign him. That's just our opinion, of course - but one that seems logical enough.
Liverpool are in a strong position here and while there's a long way to go before Gittens is being paraded around Anfield, this feels like a truly viable one for the summer. Watch this space.
