Liverpool insider confirms conditions for Mo Salah January sale

Mo Salah’s immediate Liverpool future remains up in the air.

The Egyptian King has now jetted out to the Africa Cup of Nations - amid a temporary truce between the forward and his club. Salah, 33, caused controversy with his comments following Liverpool’s game versus Leeds earlier this month.

He aimed certain barbs at Arne Slot - and also accused a figure at the club of desiring his exit.

Having sat out the Anfield side’s trip to Inter in the Champions League on the advice of Richard Hughes and Slot, Salah returned to the squad for the weekend assignment against Brighton.

Salah off to AFCON

The winger came off the bench to assist a goal for Hugo Ekitike and it was smiles all round at full-time.

Salah may not return to the fold until the middle of January - depending on how Egypt get on at Afcon - and it’s fair to say there is a degree of uncertainty over what comes next.

Saudi Pro League clubs would roll out the red carpet for Salah - either in January or summer. And there could well be interest in the record-breaking forward from MLS too.

He is under contract on Merseyside until 2027 - having agreed a bumper £400k per week extension last season.

Liverpool won't sell unless Salah pushes

And according to Liverpool insider James Pearce there will be NO outbound deal for Salah in January - that is unless the player himself agitates for a move away.

“You’d like to think that common sense would dictate that everyone just agrees that Salah stays at Liverpool until the end of the season, and it’s reviewed come the summer,” he told the Walk On podcast.

“But I think certainly the ball is very much in Salah’s court in terms of Liverpool are adamant they don’t want to lose him, so that is only going to change in January if he pushes hard for a move.”

Salah’s mind will be on other matters for the next couple of weeks at least - by which time we should know more about Egypt’s Afcon prospects.

With a focus to win his first African title, Salah probably won’t welcome unnecessary distractions. Let’s hope he returns to Liverpool, works hard and helps the club fulfil their objectives.
