Ibrahima Konate is FINALLY close to settling contract future
Liverpool have got a contract conundrum to solve over Ibrahima Konate.
In less than one month, the defender will be entitled to speak to potentially interested clubs about a free transfer in summer 2026.
Konate signed for the Reds back in 2021 - on a £35m deal from RB Leipzig - and last season starred in the club’s 2024/25 Premier League title win.
Real Madrid no longer want Konate
And while the 26-year-old’s reputation has taken a bit of a battering this season owing to some indifferent form - Liverpool will not want to lose him for nothing at the end of the season.
Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are just a selection of the overseas clubs linked with a move for Konate.
Liverpool still have a few weeks until the France international is permitted to speak with teams over a Bosman deal - with Konate’s current contract said to be worth £140k per week.
No doubt a poor 2025/26 season has weakened the stopper’s bargaining position somewhat - especially since Real Madrid last week distanced themselves from a move.
PSG back away from Konate deal
And now Liverpool have received yet another Konate contract boost.
According to reliable French reporter Marc Mechenoua, PSG have got no intention to follow up on their interest in the Paris-born defender.
"Konaté has absolutely nothing going on with PSG,” Mechenoua told France Bleu.
That leaves Bayern as the last superclub standing in the chase for Konate - although they are currently chasing another centre-back priority.
Dayot Upamecano, 27, is also out of contract in summer 2026 like his French teammate Konate. Bayern are said to be growing optimistic of finding an agreement with the defender - which would surely put a move for Konate on the backburner.
Konate’s future is becoming increasingly clear and it looks like he will be staying with Liverpool.
