Liverpool 'seriously evaluating' €60m centre-back deal as Ibrahima Konate struggles go on
Liverpool’s centre-back department is set for a period of upheaval - a process that began last summer.
We saw Jarell Quansah depart for Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth around £30m - while Giovanni Leoni was brought to the club to replace the Englishman.
However, things have gone badly wrong for Leoni almost immediately - with the £26m signing from Parma suffering a torn ACL on debut.
The 18-year-old’s injury blow means Arne Slot is currently down to THREE senior fit centre-back options and there are question marks - both short and long term - over them all.
Liverpool's centre-back uncertainty
Virgil van Dijk, 34, is out of contract in 2027 and has entered what is likely to be his final two seasons as a Liverpool player. Ibrahima Konate meanwhile is out of contract next summer and if no new agreement is reached then he will be leaving for free.
In the case of Joe Gomez, the club seem happy to listen to offers for the 28-year-old so long as the price is right and he could join AC Milan in January.
That’s why it’s been no surprise to see Liverpool linked with a plethora of central defensive options - including most prominently Marc Guehi.
Liverpool willing to pay for €60m Bremer
But with competition hotting up for the England international, Liverpool have also been associated with other senior options such as Ronald Araujo and more lately with Gleison Bremer.
The Juventus centre-back reportedly carries a valuation of around €60m - a price that now seems too rich for Real Madrid according to a new report in Defensa Central.
However, the Spanish publication also adds that plenty of Premier League teams are happy to pay Juve’s asking price for the 28-year-old.
Liverpool seriously evaluating Bremer bid
“Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea are the Premier League clubs that are seriously evaluating the possibility of undertaking such an operation,” the report reads.
Bremer is out of contract in 2029 - having joined Juventus from city rivals Torino back in 2022.
The Brazil international’s injury record is not the cleanest - with Bremer having suffered a torn ACL that kept him out for practically the entirety of last season.
