Liverpool push to land Florian Wirtz in surprise TWIST
Liverpool are pushing to sign one of the world’s most in-demand players. Florian Wirtz may just end up at Anfield.
There’s an incredible amount of speculation around Florian Wirtz’s future. The playmaker is one of the world’s most impressive players right now and at just 22, every club on the planet would take him.

But it appeared that Bayern Munich had won that race. Reports broke en masse this weekend that Wirtz had agreed on terms with the newly-crowned Bundesliga champions.
Wirtz apparently told the Bavarians that he’d move there - either this summer or in 2026. He has a contract that runs until 2027, meaning Bayer Leverkusen are almost certain to sell before he enters the final year.
They can’t afford to lose a €100m (maybe even €150m) player on a free transfer. Few can, of course.
The race was won, then, and Bayern would get him. Only, there’s been one hell of a twist - this race is still very much open and Liverpool are refusing to give in.
Florian Wirtz still choosing
Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger reports that all the claims of Wirtz agreeing on terms with Bayern are nonsense. In fact, they’ve apparently irritated the player’s family, who also represent him.
Their claim is that Wirtz’s parents have permission from Leverkusen to discuss terms with other clubs. The reigning Bundesliga champions have completely accepted a need to sell their star asset either this summer or the next, and so they’re okay with discussions elsewhere.
Those discussions have seen Wirtz’s parents fly to England where they’ve apparently talked to both Manchester City and Liverpool. The two clubs are incredibly eager to sign the player and have been for some time.
City are after their successor to Kevin De Bruyne, of course. Wirtz could be exactly that - a world-class playmaker who can make the team tick.
Liverpool, on the other hand, have been linked with Wirtz since he broke through at Leverkusen. Their new-look attack for next season could use a centre-piece, too, and the German would be exactly that.
This one, then, is very much open. Bayern remain eager to snap him up and certainly won’t give up, while we still must entertain the idea that Wirtz does want to move there and is simply testing the waters elsewhere.
But Liverpool are there hoping to steal this one. We imagine the Reds are a distant third in the race, if we’re being entirely honest, given the financial outlay required and their need to sign several others in this window.

There appears to be a chance, though, and we’ll cross our fingers that this one can happen. Wirtz would be a truly remarkable signing for Liverpool and one we’ve been desperate to happen for years.
