Liverpool are one signing from something SENSATIONAL
Liverpool are one key signing away from something sensational. What they're planning is quite ridiculous.
Liverpool are now certain to sign Florian Wirtz. The Reds have agreed on a fee with Bayer Leverkusen and the player has verbally agreed to terms.

This one, then, should be completed next week. Wirtz needs to get back from his holiday first - then it's on to medicals and signing documents.
With that, Liverpool would complete the biggest deal in their history. They've essentially never signed a player of this magnitude before - only really Fernando Torres can be put in that bracket.
Wirtz is undoubtedly one of the biggest talents in world football. The 22-year-old feels like a constant Ballon d'Or candidate and exactly the kind of player you build an elite team around.
But what might that actually look like? For us, it's easy to believe that just one more signing gives Liverpool something truly special.

Wirtz plus one
Looking back at the title-winning campaign, Liverpool had two, maybe three, areas where they could easily improve. One of those was the no.10 role where Dominik Szoboszlai never offered the creativity or output that the Reds needed.
That's not to say he doesn't have a role at Liverpool - he undoubtedly does and it's an important one at that. Szoboszlai is the link-man between midfield and attack, an incredible runner, and someone who can nit the team together beautifully.
But with Wirtz, Liverpool get someone who can create goals. Someone who doesn't nit the team together but you instead build around.
Now, you can argue that Liverpool also need a left-back and they intend to sign Milos Kerkez. But you cannot upgrade on Andy Robertson in a way that significantly improves your team - it's just not possible.
We do think Kerkez improves the team, especially long-term, but it's a minor upgrade that future-proofs things. The biggest next-step comes elsewhere.
And that's unquestionably at centre-forward. Arne Slot frequently played without one last season, instead moving Luis Diaz into a False 9 role.
A specialised striker moves Liverpool forward in a similar way to Wirtz. That's the true next step here and the one that moves the Reds from being a title-winning team to one that can truly dominate.
Liverpool won the Premier League despite their two recognised strikers, Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota, combining for 11 goals. This is despite the fact the Reds created 37 more chances last season than any other Premier League team.
Plug the right kind of striker into this team - someone who can reliably push towards 20 goals - and Liverpool are elevated into the stratosphere. That would be true even without the addition of Wirtz, a player who will help any striker reach those numbers.
Liverpool are truly one step away here from a ridiculously good team. And the thing is, the summer has only just begun - they still plan on selling forwards to fund a new striker.

We do believe this striker is on his way, we're just not sure who. When it does happen, though, you're looking at a Liverpool team that might be unstoppable.
