Star playmaker now looks LIKELY to join Liverpool
Liverpool look certain to add some magic this summer. Big changes could well happen.
Liverpool have a major summer ahead as they try and improve the Premier League champions. That’s an incredibly difficult thing to do, of course.

In fact, we think it’s an incredible statement to the rest of the Premier League that Liverpool are even going to try. There’s absolutely zero resting on their laurels - several players will leave and the style of play likely changes, too.
One of those ways it might change is with a shift in playmaking. Liverpool’s no.10, Dominik Szoboszlai, hasn’t been a ‘creator’ as such.
He’s instead focused on being a bit of a pivot player, finding spaces for other players to move the ball into. In terms of creating chances, it just hasn’t been his strength.
We’re getting the impression that Liverpool wan that to change. But not necessarily by asking Szoboszlai to change - instead, the Reds are aiming for a new playmaker.

So who will the playmaker be? We’re not sure. But there is a clear favourite for the job in Florian Wirtz.
The Reds are in the race for the German, somewhat surprisingly. That’s only because everyone thought he was destined for Bayern Munich but it appears that’s not the case.
Wirtz was in England last week in order to discuss a move to Liverpool. That doesn’t happen unless the club believe it’s a move that could happen.
Now, that’s not to say it does happen - we think it’s very unlikely, in all honesty. Not that we’ll stop holding our collective breath.
What’s particularly interesting, though, is that Wirtz is not the only no.10 with strong links to Liverpool. There’s also plenty of talk around Rayan Cherki, with Le Parisien claiming the Reds have asked about him.
It all suggests that Liverpool want to upgrade on creativity in the final third. And that’s a major step, asking questions of Szoboszlai and Mo Salah and several other key components in the Reds’ attack.
Wirtz is of a different class and it could well be that Liverpool view him as a ‘must sign’ player that you buy and then adapt to. It’s the interest in Cherki - long-standing interest at that - which has us believing this is more about wanting a certain style of play.
It also says that Liverpool will push to sign one of them. If they end up with neither, we expect a different name will pop up either this summer or the next.

Of course, we hope that doesn’t happen and that Liverpool land one of the two players, preferably Wirtz.
