Federico Chiesa has not gone on tour with Liverpool to Asia as part of the club’s preseason preparations. Even though the 27-year-old played in the preseason fixtures against Preston and Stoke, it now appears that the writing is on the wall for the Italian.

It was a season to forget on a personal level - even if Chiesa ended up as a Premier League winner. He made only SIX appearances in the top flight - and failed to grasp his chances in other competitions.

Chiesa was described as homesick but no Serie A team could afford his wages - meaning his stayed around for the second half of the campaign.

Chiesa rejects Fenerbahce

However it now appears inevitable that the former Juventus winger will be leaving - even though he is under contract until 2028.

It has been claimed that the wide man has REJECTED a move to Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce in favour of a deal in Serie A. And recent developments in Italy suggest that Napoli could once again be looming into focus.

Forest swoop for Ndoye

The Serie A champions had intentions to add Dan Ndoye to their squad from Bologna but have been beaten to the punch by Nottingham Forest.

Napoli had reservations about the Swiss forward’s valuation - said to be around €45m - but always had Chiesa on the list as a backup option.

With the Euro 2020 winner turning down Fenerbahce - and Napoli failing to secure Ndoye - it appears the Diego Maradona Stadium now beckons for Chiesa.

Other options at this stage include Atalanta - who are in the process of selling Ademola Lookman to Inter - and AC Milan - who could soon have vacancies on the wings.

Chiesa cost Liverpool a fee that could reach £12.5m from Juventus last summer - earning around £120k per week. The Reds will be content to secure a transfer fee close to the one paid to Juve for Chiesa and will be relieved to have his wages off the books.
