Fabrizio Romano shares all-important UPDATE on Ibrahima Konate talks
Liverpool have been deep in talks with Ibrahima Konate over a new contract and Fabrizio Romano has dropped the latest.
Ibrahima Konate is entering the final year of his Liverpool contract this summer. It’s a situation the club are all too familiar with, of course.

The Reds needed to strike deals with three of their most important players this season. Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contracts were all set to expire in June 2025 and they were actually all able to negotiate with other clubs from January 1st.
Two of them re-signed, however. Salah and Van Dijk will stay at Anfield for at least the next two years, with both deals announced in April.
Alexander-Arnold is off, though. He’ll almost certainly join Real Madrid once his contract expires - maybe even before then.
Konate has a chance to do something similar. His deal runs through June 2026 and if Liverpool don’t get a new one signed, they’ll have to either lose him for free or sell this summer.
So how are those talks going?
Romano on Konate
Fabrizio Romano posted on Instagram on Tuesday with an update on Ibrahima Konate’s contract talks. Or lack thereof.
In a post actually about Real Madrid’s options at centre-back this summer, Romano makes it clear that they’re interested in the Frenchman. He also makes it clear that talks with Liverpool are not progressing right now - a very worrying sign.
The Reds are running out of time, with the pressure increasing exponentially this summer. Liverpool must come to a decision on Konate, after all, if they’re to get any value for him.
That means either finding a way through the impasse to continue talks or deciding there’s no way through and then selling. We just can’t go through another season with a major contract doubt that could result in losing a highly valuable player for absolutely nothing.
But that’s where things are currently heading. It’s a bad situation and one we believe Paris Saint-Germain intend to take advantage of.

So let’s see what happens. As things stand, Romano’s update here is about as bad as it could be - a deadlock that moves Liverpool closer to the nightmare scenario.
