Liverpool face NEW centre-back threat as Inter sweeten deal
Crystal Palace declined to sell Marc Guehi to Liverpool on transfer deadline day.
Reds' sporting director Richard Hughes offered an initial £35m for the England man - but owing to a failure to land a replacement, the FA Cup holders opted to hold onto their captain.
The Eagles concluded they would rather Guehi on board for the season - even if that meant losing him on a free transfer in summer 2026.
Liverpool will be right there for the 25-year-old in an attempt to tie up a high-profile Bosman deal. The problem is that competition is increasing.
Inter come knocking for Guehi
The Premier League title-holders have missed out on having a clear run at Guehi as a result of their deadline day fumble. Now Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and others are ready to present their own proposals to the commanding centre-back.
And Inter are ready to steal a march on the competition. Palace have got Jaydee Canvot onboard as a new central defensive option and will soon add to their ranks when Chadi Riad returns from injury.
But still the loss of Guehi will leave a gaping hole in the defensive shape. One of the options floated as a replacement in summer was Inter’s €35m-rated Yann Bisseck.
Bisseck could end up at Palace
The 24-year-old is under contract at San Siro until 2030 but has been mooted as a potential departure. Sadly for Palace he declined the opportunity to move to Selhurst Park over the last transfer period.
But a report in Tutto Mercato Web suggests there could be a swap deal in January.
Whether Bisseck goes for the opportunity remains to be seen.
“Yann Bisseck is one of the prospects identified to replace Guehi, and a €35 million offer had been floated,” a report reads.
“The problem is that the German wasn't convinced by the deal, and all discussions fell through.
“Perhaps Crystal Palace will once again offer Inter a swap deal in January, certainly not for the same amount, but still with figures that aren't far off.”
This season Germany international Bisseck has found it hard to break into Cristian Chivu’s starting lineup - making only ONE appearance in Serie A. Therefore he may be ready to reconsider his decision to turn down a move.
